Fruit & Veggie Cocktails for the fall

October 18, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails, Friends, Fun / No Comments

What better way to spend an early Friday afternoon than at the studios of Martha Stewart Living Radio with the likes of Betsy Karetnick, host extraordinaire of “Everyday Food.”

Here’s a little blog post that the wonderful Lisa Mantineo, producer extraordinaire, wrote up about my most recent visit.  The recipes for each of the cocktails I made are included in this post, too.

Eat more fruits and veggies!

Halloween Cocktails

October 13, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails, Fun / No Comments

This holiday full of candy and fright is not just for kids anymore.

I’ve created some scary concoctions in my day, but none so scary as the one featured in this article from the Associated Press.

More Fall Wedding Cocktails

October 11, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails, Fun / No Comments

More of these, you say? YES! There’s a reason I love to write about the season we are in and the wonderful ingredients and cocktails it yields.

The kind folk at OurWeddingPlus.com were generous enough to invite me as a guest blogger once again.

Here’s the post:

Fall Wedding Signature Drinks

Fall in Manhattan

September 22, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails / No Comments

Creating variations on classic cocktails is fun. It allows me to mess around with already existing recipes and modify them to suit my needs. It might be a bit selfish, now that I think about it, but who cares? It’s fun.

One classic that has had endless variations made of it is the Manhattan Cocktail. Many say this drink originated at the Manhattan Club in the late 1800’s. Wherever it had it’s birth, one thing is for sure, it’s a darned good cocktail.

Here’s a variation that I like to make for myself at this time of the year. Yes, even I bring my work home with me. Would you ever doubt it? Didn’t think so.

In fact, I enjoy this variation so much that I put it on the brand new cocktail list at Ventura’s Offshore Cafe in Northfield, NJ. If you’re in that neck of the woods (half-way between Ocean City and Atlantic City), then pop on over and give it a try. Let me know what you think…

The Offshore Manhattan

1 1/2 oz. Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey

3/4 oz. Carpano Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth

1/2 oz. Allspice liqueur

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Directions: Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Garnish: cherry

The Today Show(s)

September 7, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails, Fun, News / No Comments

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Labor Day! It’s work work work here at the Wedding Cocktail Design office.

This past weekend I appeared on the NBC national Today Show with Kathie Lee and Hoda, as well as the local Today in New York show.

Kathie Lee and Hoda always make these appearances unique and enjoyable (even if they end up with mint in their dresses – watch the video and you’ll understand).

Pat Battle is full of joy and enthusiasm (and she laughs at my jokes, which is nice).

You can see these appearances below.

Fall Wedding Cocktails

August 29, 2010 / Jpogash / Cocktails / No Comments

Several weeks back I had the privilege of creating a series of signature cocktails for Corzo, a luxury tequila brand. One of these drinks, the Corzo Ruby Red, was included on the Brides.com blog for Fall Wedding Cocktails. The folks at Corzo even had a fancy shmancy picture taken of the drink:

It’s important to keep in mind seasonality with cocktails. The fall will yield tart and tangy cranberries, and amazing spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Grapefruits remain juicy during the fall months, as well. You’ll always find that ingredients that are in season are always the freshest.

The Corzo Ruby Red cocktail is tangy, sweet, and perfect for those cooler months (not that we’re rushing summer out the door).

Enjoy!
